Stuff I've Made

School has started and that means busy, busy, busy.  Yet, I've found time to do some crafty projects.

First, another beer bottle cap tray for my favorite sister-in-law, Amy Jo.  A few months ago her cousin was in a severe motorcycle accident.  Amy asked if any of the family members could donate items to a benefit for her cousin.  Luckily, I found some trays and will be able to contribute.

I also decided to make use of some of my Snapple lids and made a Sanpple Tid-Bit mini tray.  Not sure what it can be used for, but it looks pretty cool.

Then there is our school spirit days.  We are supposed to wear the color of our "houses" every Friday.  My friend does not own any red (the color of her house) and was called out on it on Friday.  Where's your red????  Problem solved:

Made a black one for myself.  I'm supposed to wear white, but I think the black will do.

A few months back a friend of my mom's, Toby (or Tobeast) asked me to create a design for his Zephyr driving school.  I finished that today too.

So many crafty things!  Not sure what I'll make next......

Velcro Shoes

Back in June I went on a few dates with a very nice fellow.  We seemed to have a lot in common on the first date, so a second date was arranged.
Second date was going swimmingly, then he began to eat some bread.  Not a big deal you may say.  And normally, not a big deal.  He began eating the bread creating quite the pile of crumbs on the table (notice the lack of eating over a plate).  He noticed the crumbs and hastily brushed them onto the floor.  OK.  Not a deal breaker.  A third date was arranged.
Third date began a week later at a nice restaurant. He was dressed snazzy- then I noticed his shoes.  VELCRO!

Ok ok....carry on with the date.  Its just shoes.....

We begin to eat.  He never unrolls his napkin- just brushes his pizza ridden fingers on the rolled up  silverware.  

Ok ok.....carry on with the date.  Its just the table manners- again.

Then the awkward silence settles in.  One more hour till movie time.....I filled the void with a bunch of chatter.

Ok ok.....carry on with the date.  Its just a lull in the conversation.

The movie began.  He began to sweat- noticeably.  Now, I can't knock the guy for sweating because I sweat like a man most of the time.

Then I hear this noise.....I tried finding it on youtube but couldn't find an exact match.  He kept pulling his lower lip out and in really fast......for two hours.....straight..........

Stick a fork in me, I'm done!  The movie ends, I thank him for a nice night, tell him I'd call him if I wanted to see him again,  and walk myself to my car.

Fast forward to one month lather.  I am on match.com again and within 5 minutes of me being on there, I get an e-mail from him.  I look at the "who's viewed me" tab and see that he keeps looking at my profile.  His e-mail stated that he had a good time but didn't see it going anywhere.  Oh boy.

Now I know that I can't be too picky, because, let's face it, there's not a whole lot out there.  Yet, I have to have some standards :).  On to the next dating adventure!

Baking a Cake

It was Mindi Fest this past weekend in which Mindi celebrated her 30th birthday!  Woo hoo!  To celebrate the day, I baked her a cake!  I haven't baked and decorated a cake in a looooooong time.  So it did not turn out exactly as I had it planned out in my head, but it was still good.

Here's all the ingredients ready to go.

Zebra cake- take 1/3 cup of chocolate cake mix, pour 1/3 cup white cake mix on top- repeat until pan is full.

Used two pans.

Cake is baked!

I used a butter cream recipe for the frosting and made two layers on the bottom and top.

After placing a base layer of frosting on the cake, into the fridge to cool off!

The finished project ready for transport to Mindi's house.

What was left after the party and this is what I fed to kids at school.  Notice the nice zebra pattern!

Gettin' Crafty

A few months back my Uncle Mike sent out his invitation for his annual "Bowl-a-thon for Leukemia."  He asked if anyone had any items they would like to donate to the event for the raffle or silent auction. Hmmmmm what could I make?  Then it hit me- beer bottle cap serving tray!!!  I've made one before that now hangs on the wall of the Runnells' cabin in Lac Du Flambeau.  What is this tray?  How did I make it?  Here goes:

I bought a tray on clearance at my favorite store- Target!  I made sure where the handles were it was deep enough to hold beer bottle caps.

I then sanded the surface so everything would stick.

I then gathered some supplies:  Mod Podge decoupage and oodles of beer bottle labels.

Time to glue the labels on!  I used a couple of layers of glue.  After all the labels were glued down, I varnished over them for extra protection.

Next, the bottle caps!  I happened to have a whole lunch box full thanks to everyone who drank beer at the cabin up north.

Here the tray is once I hot glued all the caps down.

The final product after liquid acrylic was poured and hardened.

It was tons of fun to make.  I'm still keeping my eye out for a used coffee table to do the same thing to!
